Label Printing with a publishing program
I have used a number of different label programs over the years and have found that the best way to do this is to use a publishing program such as Microsoft Publisher (I use one called GreenStreet Publisher). You will
need to layout a page in the publishing program to match the paper stock you are using. You will also need to measure the various dimensions for margins and where the labels lay on the page.
Using a ruler, layout "non printable" rectangles, circles etc. to define the areas of the label. You can layout one label, lock the elements into a group and copy that group throughout the page. When you are finished
save it as a template. Using a publishing program will give you the most control over the layout.
Setting up Microsoft Word to use with labels
If you need to set up Word for printing labels and the labels are not available in Word then this is a procedure for doing just that.
You will need to get a number of measurements before proceeding.
(Please note you will need to convert inches to decimal. In other words 1 1/2" = 1.50, 1/16" = .625, etc.)
On our web site many of the dimensions are available by clicking on the label image a couple of times until you get to the image with the dimensions.
The measurements you need are:
*
Top margin (from top of page to top of label)
*
Side Margin (from left side of page to left side of label)
*
Vertical pitch (from top of label to top of second label)
*
Horizontal Pitch (from left side of page to left side of 2nd label)
*
Label Height
*
Label Width
*
Number of labels across
*
Number of labels down
1.
From the Word menu got to "Tools -> Envelope and Labels"
2.
Click on "Options"
3.
Click on "New Label"
4.
Name the label and insert the measurements.
5.
Click "OK" and close window.
6.
Click "OK" and close "Label Options" window.
7.
Click "New Document"
At that point you will be in Word and you will probably need to tweek your settings to match up with your requirements and your printer settings.
